Welcome to Biotech Kisan Hub

As a part of the Government’s focus on the development of programmes that aim to directly and positively impact people’s lives rapidly, the Ministry of Science and Technology has been at the forefront in many of these initiatives Two Farmer-Centric initiatives of this Ministry are Biotech-KISAN and Cattle Genomics.

Sanction of the President is hereby accorded under Rule 18 of the Delegation of Financial Powers Rules, 1978, for the implementation of the Project entitled “Establishment of Biotech-KISAN Hub at Acharya N.G. Ranga Agricultural University, Guntur, Andhra Pradesh” at a total cost of Rs.114.30 lakhs (Rupees One Crore Fourteen lakhs Thirty thousand only) at Acharya N.G. Ranga Agricultural University, Guntur, Andhra Pradesh.

Objectives:

“Biotech-Krishi Innovation Science Application Network (Biotech-KISAN)” will be implemented in 15 agro-climatic zones of India in phased manner with the objective:

Linking available science and technology to the farm by first understanding the problem of the local farmer and provide solutions to those problems.

The working together, in close conjunction, of scientists and farmers is the only way to improve the working conditions of small and marginal farmers.

This programme aims to work with small and marginal farmers especially the woman farmer for better agriculture productivity through scientific intervention and evolving best farming practices in the Indian context.

Technological Activities:

Identified social, technological, situational, informational constraints through baseline survey.

Technological constraints for Yield gaps were identified and documented.

Capacity building for the scientists and farmers

Bridging yield gaps through On-farm demonstrations

Development of functional linkages among farmers, line departments, scientist, partner institutes, ICAR institutes and with their counter parts.

Developing entrepreneurship among farmers through establishment value addition addition units and production of bio-agents.

Dissemination of weather forecasting ,location specific messages and crop advisories to the farmers through AKPS and DBT Biotech KISAN Hub

Developing video conferencing facility to link main hub with sub hubs

Exploring Information Technology tools in dissemination of technologies and documentation of the project implementation.

Organizing the farmers/women farmer groups and exploring them for adoption of latest farm technologies

Developing seed hubs/banks with advanced varieties of target crops

Identification and validation of farmer led innovation and documentation
